The six-year-old son of Lonhro is one of 15 runners in the $175,000 Group 1 Ajax Stakes (1500m), the Doncaster Mile lead-up running as Rosehill Race 8 at 4:50pm (AEDT) on Saturdayâs nine-race program.
Jumping from barrier five, Generalife carries the second top-weight of 58.5kg with regular rider James McDonald staying aboard.
From two runs this campaign the horse has run fourth twice, the latest being behind Charlie Boy when just over a length off the winner in Randwickâs Group 3 Liverpool City Cup (1300m) a fortnight ago.
Generalife carried the same weight he is allocated for the weekend that day and sits top of Ajax Stakes betting through Ladbrokes.com.au paying $5.50 to post a win when returning to his pet track at Rosehill where he boasts four wins and a third from seven starts.
Hot on his heels in the current Ajax Stakes odds at $6 is the early market mover Good Project for Chris Waller, the gun four-year-old with work to do from the outside barrier (15).
The super-consistent Not A Single Doubt gelding may have the nasty gate but the bookies are taking no chances on Wallerâs Liverpool City Cup third placegetter who is a Group 1 winner having taken out Perthâs Railway Stakes (1600m) last November.
Good Project has winning form at Rosehill (5-1-3-1) and has saluted over a mile, so only needs luck in running for he and jockey Brenton Avdulla from out wide on the weekend.
Two other Ajax Stakes hopes are also at single figures for the win with the Joe Pride-trained Rosehill specialist Rock Sturdy ($7.50) drawn a treat in gate two who is undefeated over the distance (2-2-0-0) and Itâs Somewhat ($9) out wide in barrier 14.
Fastnet Rock five-year-old Rock Sturdy is second-up on the weekend after his Liverpool City Cup second two weeks back, which was the smart stallionâs first run since a close third when just a half-length off Turn Me Loose in the Group 1 Emirates Stakes (1600m) during the Melbourne Cup Carnival.
Itâs Somewhat is a stablemate of favourite Generalife, the fellow John OâShea-trained galloper out to improve on his Liverpool City Cup sixth.
Outside of the top four the other horses with genuine claims for the Ajax Stakes title this Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival include Wallerâs imported Jeremy four-year-old Kool Kompany ($11) having his first Rosehill run, the Darren Weir-trained Group 1 winning son of Encosta De Lago Puccini ($12) and the 59kg top weight Big Money ($14).
Two back Big Money won the Group 3 Southern Cross Stakes (1200m), a race Saturdayâs favourite Generalife ran fourth in, before the Scone-based sprinterâs disappointing 10th in the Liverpool City Cup.
